Dev Hound is a web based project management system designed for bug tracking, tracking projects, development teams, software releases, clients, support calls and knowledge bases.

Featuring its own web server, 2 minute server install, email notifications, mail merge client emailing, reports, graphs and a windows XP style easy to use interface Dev Hound makes life easier for software developers, QA personnel, project managers and customers.

Dev Hounds feature list also rivals many more expensive solutions which make it perfect for small business but has a flexible architecture for larger companies who want to customize.

has some interesting features, like a better permission system, tag customization...

Good idea. Smile

About permissions
We must insert "not predefined" roles in the system.
Or insert the roles as templates with any permissions. And we should make the interface for creation of a new role and the sanction to it.

see plz http://phpcollab.sourceforge.net/viewtopic.php?t=840

Phpcollab needs two things here:
- a workflow engine
- a permissions model

Have a look at the post http://phpcollab.sourceforge.net/viewtopic.php?t=220 right at the bottom for info's.

I suggest we review the competition, and prioritize those feature requests that at the very least our open source and freeware competitors have. We should probably do this ASAP to make sure the project stays on track and to ensure that the 2.5 contains the most important enhancements.

I have to say this made me smile:
"I suggest we review the competition" in an open source arena Smile

The 2.5 release will contain enhancements, but it will be primarily a "next step" release following the original principles and implementations as set by ceam. It may have a few extra's, but will for the greater part be in line with the original phpcollab.

If you do analyze the "competition" there's just a few key elements which could be made to immediately make phpcollab stand out from the crowd again:
- renew the templating structure, make it at least easier or preferably compliant with tag & preview structures as used/available within common visual IDE's.
- renew the "plugin" structure, rip everything out but the core and the permissions model, then provide for a structure where functionality can be "dropped in". Whether that is a section, a feature, or an addon. Php can using classes do zip and unzip procedures even on shared hosting level, xml is nice and easy for structures as well as plugin definitions.

If you've got those two it's a lot easier to stand up against the new "competition" (and the old ones who have reinvented themselves.

I would not recommend delaying a 2.5 release for this though: keep that as it is and use the extra time so to speak to plan for a practical restructuring.
There's no absolute need to go in depth on competition - as long as you stick to the prime requirements for continuity of project/product lifecycle...

Even open source is subject to the vagaries of a marketplace - open source developers' currency is reputation instead of money.

I was more speaking of lightweight features that are still very important such as exporting to MSProject and online chat (which Groove, among many other things, offers in its lite version). But I suppose even these features can wait for the next release Wink

I already declared on forum about searching for of the developer, capable to do this.

Presently one of the main of the problems this auth module (v2.6) and obtain stabilities v2.5

Pfft, Dev Hound. That's lightweight.

Conflux Pro
Free up to 5 users; $500 for 10; etc.+

My company will be switching to Conflux Pro from phpCollab in 3-4 months. That is, if phpCollab ceases active development, the community dies, or phpCollab no longer satisfies our requirements. If phpCollab had an e-mail client we probably wouldn't switch.

Groove Virtual Office
Expensive. Awesome. Expensive. Awesome. Expensive. etc.+

The Conflux site also offers -
Quote:

Conflux Lite is a (free) open-source groupware package distributed under the GNU GPL licence. Although the Lite version offers less functionality then Professional, it still includes all the core functionality, which should meet the needs of small companies
All the Conflux products seem to have rather stringent system requirements.

Yep. That's why I have to wait three months for my current host to support VDS/VPS.
