phpCollab 3 only for PHP 5?

I’m wondering if a total rewrite of phpCollab using a PHP5 only MVC framework should be a good choice. This would give us some benefits such:

  • a new/refreshed code more scalable
  • unit testing
  • php 5 objects
  • PDO
  • creole/propel
  • i don’t know… other…

what do you think on a choice like this? You’ll use phpCollab if it will be compatible only with php 5? Or you prefer a classical php 4 application?

phpCollab and Gentoo Linux

As you know phpCollab is installable in Gentoo Linux via emerge, now is possible to install also the lastest RCs! :)

Thanks a lot to the Gentoo www application crew!

phpCollab was included in 4PSA Integrator

received and posted

phpCollab was selected to be included in the 4PSA Integrator repository, which
contains now 39 of the most popular Open Source web applications.

The decision to include an application in 4PSA Integrator is based on
quality and popularity. Only the most representative and useful
applications, like phpCollab, have been chosen.

Please let your users know that phpCollab can be managed automatically on Plesk
servers using 4PSA Integrator. 4PSA Integrator is installed on
thousands of Plesk servers, so the installation and maintenance
procedure is much easier even for non-experienced users.

Community forum hacked, again…

This is the 4th time that phpBB plus was hacked, I’ve liked a lot that forum but we can not check every single day if a new XSS o bug is discovered and if there is patch to download.

With the new releases also the update/patching process is begone long and boring.

Now I’m thinking to switch to another OOS forum, but I don’t know what, we don’t need a zillion features forum, we need something easy to manage, to use and to restore.

Any ideas?

phpCollab 2.5 rc 3

I’ve released the phpCollab 2.5 rc 3, this release is the last one before the 2.5 stable. The rc3 is pretty a bug fix release (for more info take a look at the changelog) no great news and enhancement here.

Please test it a lot on your server, we need a lot of bug hunting for msql server and postfix and on upgrading procedure from 2.4, when we will be sure of the code we will publish the stable.

upgrading from 2.5 beta/rc
the upgrade function is only from 2.4 to 2.5 rc 3 and is not suited for a 2.5 beta/rc to rc 3 migration so if you want to update a 2.5 beta/rc I suggest you to dump the old db, make a fresh install of the rc 3 and then import the old db data tables in the new db.
